Time's Wicked Current

Rum-tee-tum-tee-tum-tum.
Sipping rum, watching "Into the Blue" with the director's commentary going, and remembering a long-anticipated Hawaiian dive-trip with my late best friend back in 2008.

Time has a wicked current, you know?

TBT: Water / Damage

A 2008 shot, from Hawaii, and the water got into that disposable camera, but that's okay.

I'll never be that young again--and, hey, eight years ago is younger--but I yearn and aim to be in as good a shape as I was that year.  I swam and swam and swam that year.

Aiming to make the rest of 2016 a water-year.

The View From Cook's End

A gorgeous view from a sacred location, sacred to the ancient and modern Hawaiians.

The cross marks the spot where Captain Cook met his end,
marking a different sort of sacred spot for certain Euro-descended people.

Also, according to our guide, Makai, that stone plaque came loose during a winter storm and had to be recovered before being lost to the waters.  An earlier bronze plaque commemorating Capt. Cook's life and death disappeared (salvaged, recycled) during WWII, I believe.

Swimming, Flying

Hawaii: Above and Below

No tricks:  I snapped the top shot, held my breath and dove down, and snapped the bottom shot.

"Into The Blue"

The last movie Keith and I watched together. DVD (which I'd brought) in the rental condo on our last dive trip, the one for a week in Maui, that we'd planned for years. We preferred watching the director's commentary version, over and over, as we drank beer, or tequila, or rum, or whatever, and debated the states of our lives--as lifelong friends and dive buddies are wont to do--and planned the next day's diving or free diving. The trip of a lifetime. So glad we made it happen.

I miss you, man.

Reprise: Dusk Swimming

Dusk swimming:
Kealakekua Bay--out off Manini Beach.
Big Island, HI.

End of July, 2013.

The top photo just may be my favorite of 2013, of the shots I've taken.
