The Surfer and the Shadow

What's that shadow in the water?

Probably, a mass of kelp.  There was quite a bit of kelp in the water, in the surfzone, and on the shore.

Dolphin?  Seal?  Maybe a fellow surfer or two duck-diving?

Here's the picture I took just before the one with the shadow in the water.

Lovely Day: Pacifica

I swam out and played in the waves for a while today.
I need to do that a bit more often.

Stretch and Kick

Lindamar prepfest, and power to them.  Stretching is good for you.

I did my own bare minimum of stretching before I paddled out and learned my own lesson that I need to be in better shape, better paddling shape, for the next outing.  Kayak-paddling muscles aren't quite the same ones, quite apparently, as board-paddling muscles.  I paddled the (soft) board out, and I realized quickly that I lacked oomph and push.  I made my way somewhat nervously beyond the breakers, not ready for a spin and ride nor for a silly wipeout, and rested.  Hmmmm.  I'm not moving very quickly and am tiring fast.  Realizations are good.  I paddled about for the practice, the exercise,  but slowly, slowly, slowly.  I tried a couple of waves, and then returned to the beach, chastened.  But happy.  Still counts, you know.

Then, I put the 9' board back on the truck's racks, and I pulled out fins, mask, and boogie board and went back out for a while.

Out In The Water

Out in the water, looking back at land, watching the waves and the surfers . . . .

Favorite views.

Pacific Swimming On A Grey Day

Went swimming off Lindamar Beach, Pacifica CA, with the surfers. Mask & snorkel; fins; wetsuit; squid-lid; camera. Visibility, as you'd expect at a sandy beach, was almost nil in the water.

Four porpoises cruised through the line-ups, though I didn't get any shots myself. Two were within a dozen feet of me, but I didn't have the camera ready in time.

Have to do better next time.

Age is a number, just a number, they say.  Just the passage of time, wayward time.

I say, time to wend my way back into shape.

They Went That Way

Fish hunters.

Sky Shot

Taken while swimming in and about the surf zone today. I do keep my eye on the incoming waves and the surfers, but I also like to check the cloud cover too.

Instead of seeing shapes in the clouds, today I kept seeing shapes behind the clouds, in the blue.

Coat of Many Colors

This lovely scavenger came looking for crumbs.

When I didn't pony up, she checked the view. And a great view it is: Taco Bell, Pacifica, CA.

Big Brother gave my table a try next.

I hadn't noticed all the colors until I downloaded the shot. In my defense, there were various distractions: the birds' antics, the glorious view, assorted minor wipeouts, and the sunglasses I was wearing.

First, I admire all those colors here.

Then, I attempt to resist the captions crowding my mind. "Surf check!"

Or, "In another life, I'd be shredding."

Or even, "Why aren't they doing airs? Kooks!"
