Reading: Jackson Brodie #3

My favorite novel of 2021. I don't expect to find a better one.

Lady, Recuperating, With Jackson Brodie

Happy to be on my lap; tired of not having the run of the house.

Lady, curled to catch the last sliver of afternoon light.

Reading.  Kate Atkinson's second Jackson Brodie novel is new to me.  And, this novel--like her others--demonstrates her unpredictability, her inventiveness, and her solidity as a novelist that any mystery, crime, or thriller writer ought to consider as a model.

Medical Check

Not pretty; not handsome.

Necessary -- and/or necessary/helpful.

24-hour heart monitoring to see what's what.

I expect an all-clear call, but I had palpitations and some difficulty breathing, so I followed the paint-by-numbers steps.  And that's what YOU, whoever you are, should do.

I need to exercise more and cut sugar and alcohol, no doubt.  This past year of working from my home-desk has not prioritized fitness, but the next year should.

I shall paddle --board or kayak -- tomorrow.

Jackson Brodie: Tide In, Tide Out?

Present, but not omnipresent, with both healthy and unhealthy equivocation.

No need for "spoiler alert" with that comment.

More than anything, Atkinson may be the writer who most surprises me, even as she carries me handily along the stream of story.

A keen rereading.
