Good fin-workout at the pool today:
kick across, kick & stroke back;
frequent underwater laps;
pushed past that desire to stop early;
felt like myself after 45 minutes.
Getting back in shape,
getting into better shape:
that's the goal.

The Salt Embrace II
When I was a boy, I wanted to find the Elephants' Graveyard, the ruins of Atlantis, and Davy Jones' (actual) Locker.

Flotsam: Beach Rescue
The poor fellow was lying on the sand, obviously washed up with the morning tide. I couldn't help but think of some poor child bereft of his or her friend.
I think his name is Hannibal, by the way.
So I placed the elephant on a rock in a spot that would keep him above the rising tide and at a good eye-level for any adults walking the beach. Of course, anyone seeking a lost friend like this would have their eyes glued to the sand . . . so here's hoping.
I think his name is Hannibal, by the way.

Leisure Reading: Malazan Empire-Style
I'm just getting into Erikson & Casslemont's Malazan series. (I remembered seeing the books on one of your bookshelves, ED, which led me to giving the first books of the series -- Night of Knives, Gardens of the Moon -- another try.) Now I'm starting Deadhouse Gates with eagerness, feeling grounded in this savage hurlyburly of a world.

Clay: A Friendly Frog
The Frog, Sitting:
clay: soldate;
glaze: oribe or celadon?
(I failed to take proper notes!)
Fresh Glazed Clay
Trial pieces:
Frog, Sitting
The glaze bubbled and ran in ways I didn't imagine . . .
so I guess I'll call him "Jester, Poisoned" (perhaps a failed escapee from Game of Thrones).
Minotaur . . . or pirate? Horns or hat?
Grumpy fellow, either way.
Greenman on stone.
I like how this glaze "breaks" -- that is, separates to show the details -- but I didn't write down whether this glaze is oribe or celadon. I'm sure someone at the studio can help me. (I usually make copious notes, but this was my first run at glazing at my new studio.)

Surface Shots: Kealakekua Bay
Water-drops on the lens, but I still like this shot for the illusion of a breaking wave from the clouds.
Similar shots, but I like the textures visible in each part of the sequence.
