Orange Julius
Yard-pal going to town on an orange from the tree.
(Is that squirrel Lavinia or Beauregard? Or . . . Julius?)
Linda Gregg's "All The Different Kinds Of Years"
ARRIVING AGAIN AND AGAIN WITHOUT NOTICING
I remember all the different kinds of years,
angry, or brokenhearted, or afraid.
I remember feeling like that
walking up the mountain along the dirt path
to my broken house on the island.
And long years of waiting in Massachusetts.
The winter walking and hot summer walking.
I finally fell in love with all of it:
dirt, night, rock and far views.
It's strange that my heart is full
now as my desire was then.

(My pal Meredith sent me this poem years ago for my 45th birthday.)

Reprise: Aqua-Matt in Clay
Self-Portrait #47:
sculpture mix; green and shino glazing.
Summer 2008.
I just had a good quick swim session. Feeling slightly connected to my aquatic self.

Sirens: Models of Danger and Desire
Sophia Loren, diver: still shot from Boy On A Dolphin.
One of my earliest mermaids in clay: sculpture mix; pit-fired on Ocean Beach, SF.
The tail is reddish from the kelp I wrapped around that part. The charcoal and blue markings surprised me with their aptness here: pure luck in the pit for a crude piece of work.
I've posted shots of this one before, of course. I wanted to look at it again with fresher eyes, and so used the camera and posted it. (That tends to work for me. Handling it, actually taking the piece down from the wall and feeling the clay, works too, often better.)
Study prompts.

More Frog Than Fish, More Log Than Frog
I am just back from the pool, where I was more frog than fish, and more log than frog, I think. Still, another start toward fitness and joy.

Cowabunga
The good-luck duck-fish, with single-fin board:
recycled sculpture mix, denim and blue/green glazes; abalone shell;
twine; redwood bark; a broken bit from a sea urchin shell.
That's a memento from Surf-Camp 2008 in the background. The Richard Schmidt Surf School down in Santa Cruz: check them out, for they will treat you right.
